If I Were A My Little Pony...

...I'd look something like this.

Check out this completely fun My Little Pony Creator game here. I know you always wanted to make your very own my little pony!

It's Less Than A Month Away...

...the second season of Game of Thrones! This video was too fun not to share.

This doesn't mean that I'm not still waiting for the next book in the Song of Ice & Fire series, but I'll take HBO's wonderful adaptation of the series in the meantime.

Did you know my dad didn't like my sister or I to watch the Simpsons when I was younger?

(Well of course you didn't know until I told you, duh!)

But it apparently had something to do with the show's morals (or lack thereof).

My Geeky Pony Monday

This was too beautiful not to share!

Last night at my bi-weekly D&D game, my fellow gamers brought this to my attention.

Do they know me or what?!

I think it was inspired that they chose Rainbow Dash to be the somewhat whiney-sounding guy in the background asking, "Where are the Cheetos?" and "If there are any girls there I wanna DO them!"

Nothing can bring the weekend to a close better than a My Little Pony, Dungeons & Dragons and Summoner mashup, wouldn't you agree?

Certainly the Summoner parody has always been a big favorite in my gaming circle.

Remember, it's not the meek who will inherit the earth, but the GEEK!

Wicked Fun with My Little Ponies

I don't know why I never thought of getting a My Little Pony as a tattoo. Seeing it in the flesh, so to speak, makes me consider it more seriously.

If I wanted to be sweet, I'd get one like the seapony below.

If I wanted to be badass, I'd get one like this:

Thanks to Cal over at Calvin's Canadian Cave of Cool for this beauty.

And if I wanted to be naughty I'd get one provocative like this:

This image is thanks to my Game Whore friend who found it
somewhere & sent it to my phone, where it has stayed
as its wallpaper ever since. And that was MONTHS ago!

Technically, the one & only tiny tattoo I already have is in the spot where my picture would be if I were a pony. So in a way, I kinda do already have pony-themed ink.

48 Hour Film Project

Some friends of mine were a part of the 48 Hour Film Project for Minneapolis and I thought the film they put together was excellent!

Okay, I might be a tad biased...but I did go their premier night where a bunch of other submitted films were shown at the same time, and while I saw several that I liked, I thought my friends were on an equal or above level.

Each film had to incorporate three story elements:
  • Character: Les or Lena Olinger, Driving Instructor
  • Prop: magnet
  • Line of dialogue: "Tell me about it"
In addition, each filmmaker had a genre randomly chosen that their film had to be about. My friends ended up with Birthday/Anniversary.

They were given 48 hours to come up with a script, find a location, film it, edit, put a score to it, and produce it. Each film must be within a certain length (3 to 8 minutes I believe) and incorporate both the assigned genre as well as the three film elements.

So behold, the 48 hour film project entry submitted by Porcelain God Productions (my friend Jack and crew):

LEFT

One of the reasons I like short fiction over long novels sometimes is that the author has such a short time to set up the story, draw you in, and hit you with the plot-punch. Those who do it well often leave me with lots of questions in my head and provoke a lot of thinking. This film did the same thing. It draws you in wondering what happened to the girl Les was teaching to drive and why he's now alone. As it continues you get a strong clue and it hits you in the face with what happened, at which point I started to identify with Les. The best part (and most irritating if you need to know, like me) was the ending--who's at that door?!? Who else didn't get taken during the Rapture? Will whoever it is at the door keep Les from using that gun?

The feline-esque unsatiable curiousity in me hates that we don't get to see that part, but the artistic appreciator in me understands that it helps to end the film with a big impact to leave it as a mystery.

The actors are my friend Jack and his girlfriend Courtney. Jack is incredibly creative and if you looked up "thinks outside the box" in the dictionary, you'd find a picture of Jack grinning at you with his gorgeous blue eyes. He's a very smart guy, extremely motivated when he gets his mind on something, and one of the nicest people I know. He has a generous heart too and has always been willing to help--whether it's with moving, figuring out how to make a tricky part of a costume or accessory, borrowing you role-playing material or ready to game at the drop of a hat.

Quite a few of my nerd herd were involved in the film. I was invited as well, but alas! the 48 hour weekend was on my anniversary weekend and we had other things going on. Plus, I'm not sure how much help I would have been other than as a sounding board. I know nothing about filmmaking other than that I like to watch the finished product. But I was happy to support them by attending the premier and giving my vote for their flim, "Left". The only thing I wish I would have done was ask a question during the Q&A of the filmmakers after the viewing. I should have asked "Who's at the door?" then because Jack wouldn't tell me afterwards.

The judges are still deliberating, but there's a chance that this film will be chosen to go on to Filmapalooza which would be completely awesome for Porcelain God Productions and my friends.

Film on, glorious budding directors/actors/writers/producers, film on!

A Few of My Favorite Things...Pop Culture Combined with My Little Ponies!

A co-worker clued me into an artist who uses My Little Ponies as the foundation for sculpture art.
Mari Kasurinen is from Finland and I might be a little bit in love with her after seeing these.

While inside I shudder a bit to think of the desecration of all those Ponies, I think this she is incredibly  talented and inspired to see the possibilities from each Pony body shape and transform her vision into reality.
Here are some of my favorites. What a concept and medium to work with! It's like a dream come true, having these embodiments of fond childhood memories remade into favorite geekery of other types.

For some of them I can see the pony shape and guess which Pony the character started off as. For others the sculpture completely disguises the underlying My Little Pony.

My absolute favorite?

The time and effort this must take! My mind boggles.

I appreciate her dedication to the details of making each character turn out just so, with the end result so recognizable. Someday I'd like to buy or even commission one of these from her.

Maybe I'd even give up one of my precious Ponies for the cause. Then again, maybe I wouldn't.
